Bug (Live at the 930 Club)

Bug is my all-time favorite Dinosaur Jr album, followed by You’re Living All Over Me. I mean who doesn’t love when Dinosaur or even J doing a solo show breaks into Freak Scene?

Originally, I had hopes of getting the band to sign an old copy of one of those records, but I almost always prefer the sound and energy from a live recording than a polished studio recording. And it just seems like a far more impressive feat to play the songs live than to assemble the perfect studio version, composed of limitless undos, samples, splices and outtakes. Plus, again, the raw energy is not only different but better.

I had little doubt i would be able to get Murph and Lou to sign a Dinosaur Jr album for me, but i had a bit of trepidation about getting J for the full set. A month or two ago, I saw J when he was out and about and tried to strike up conversation – incredibly difficult for one introvert to start a conversation with another introvert, I might add. But somewhere in there, i asked if i saw him again in the future, if he’d mind signing something for me, to which he said something along the lines of “sure”.

So one out of three for now.
